Il était un bénédictin de l'abbaye de Saint-Papoul dans l'Aude. Il pratiqua toutes les vertus monastiques. Tellement qu'il fut ainsi conduit à la sainteté.
Bérenger naquit à Toulouse vers 1005 de parents appartenant à la noblesse. Précocement vertueux, il prit l'habit dès l'adolescence à l'abbaye de Saint-Papoul.
Il y mena la vie d'ascète que suppose la stricte observance de la règle de Saint Benoît.
Modèle pour ces congénères, il fut nommé maître des novices puis aumônier.
Ses reliques furent conservées à l'abbaye et suscitèrent de nombreux miracles.

He practiced all the monastic virtues. So much so that he was thus led to holiness. Bérenger was born in Toulouse around 1005 of parents belonging to the nobility. Early virtuous, he took the habit as a teenager at the Abbey of Saint-Papoul.
There he led the life of an ascetic which the strict observance of the rule of Saint Benedict supposes.
A model for these congeners, he was appointed master of novices and then chaplain.
His relics were kept in the abbey and caused many miracles.
