5 septembre, Sainte Raïssa. Martyre à Alexandrie (IV^e siècle)

Fille d'un prêtre de Tamieh (Fayoum) sur la frontière du désert de Lybie, elle avait environ vingt ans quand éclate la persécution de Dioclétien. Alors qu'elle se rendait au puits pour y chercher de l'eau, elle croise un cortège de moines et de vierges arrêtés par la police qui les conduit à Alexandrie dans des conditions atroces, avant de les mettre à mort. Elle veut se joindre à eux. On la repousse. Elle revient à la charge, proférant tant d'injures contre les dieux, qu'elle est mise dans le cortège et qu'elle eut la tête tranchée.

On fête également les Bertin.

Daughter of a priest from Tamieh (Fayoum) on the border of the Libyan desert, she was about twenty years old when the persecution of Diocletian broke out. As she was going to the well to fetch water there, she came across a procession of monks and virgins arrested by the police who took them to Alexandria in atrocious conditions, before putting them to death.
